We are proud to introduce you to our newest products – the Performing Arts Curriculum E-Manual and the Community Spaces & Design Curriculum E-Manual!!!
The purpose of both of these curriculum e-manuals is to provide career-focused Trimble SketchUp activities for families and professionals working with students on the autism spectrum. Our research has demonstrated that these students often have visual-spatial skills that can be discovered and enhanced through 3-D design programs like SketchUp. These students often have untapped potential, and through the development of technology skills like SketchUp they may increase their opportunities for internships and employment.
Both e-manuals are PDFs and contain 45+ activities ranging from beginning level to advanced level.
Performing Arts Design Curriculum E-Manual
This manual offers many activities related to Theatrical Production Design. Live theater is a collaborative art that brings joy, enlightenment, and entertainment to thousands of people every day. This manual also has design activities related to Props Design. Props design (properties design), is a creative design career used in theater, film, television and other performing arts. “Properties” are objects owned by the theater or production company that are used by the actors during the production. The props designer (aka Props Master) designs the objects used to help the actors portray the story in production.
This manual also has design activities related to Set Design. The set designer studies the script and then designs, builds, and paints the set needed to tell the story. Just like props designers, set designers don’t do their job alone. Set designers work with the director and art director to figure out what kind of set they want to use.
This manual includes design activities related to Theater Design. Theater designers collaborate to design public venues such as movie theaters, stage theaters, and amphitheaters. SketchUp is a useful tool for a theater designer, because it helps them determine exact measurements so that they can ensure that there will be enough space for set pieces, lights, fly systems, pits, set building, storage, rehearsal halls, dressing rooms, costume construction rooms, and all the other elements necessary or useful in a theater.
Community Spaces and Design Curriculum E-Manual
This manual offers many design-related activities related to Architecture. SketchUp is a wonderful tool used to help architects and the people they work with to determine the visual and structural elements of the building they are creating. SketchUp can also help architects figure out whether or not an idea will work and if it will translate into a real building. Remember that this architecture career module gives you ideas for activities. As the instructor, you are free to tailor these activities to your students as you see fit. This career module is designed to help inspire your own creativity in guiding a student through SketchUp.
This manual also has design activities related to Interior Design. Interior designers oversee the planning and execution of design projects. These projects may be for the interiors of a house, a school, a restaurant, or a museum. Design projects may include architectural interiors, such as designing a fireplace, a kitchen layout, or built-in bookshelves. Projects may also include selecting colors, furnishings, or lighting, such as finding an entertainment center, a sectional, or a chandelier, that not only work well in a space but that also complement the look of the space. In order to know what furniture and structural changes would be functional, fit the space, and be aesthetically pleasing, an interior designer must have a diverse skill set.
Before implementing design ideas for a project, an interior designer creates the space in SketchUp. Interior designers need to first plan out the structure and its interiors in SketchUp so that they can make sure all measurements, proportions, and other design details are correct. It is important to see how a design vision plays out before executing plans. Interior designers also create a space in SketchUp to help their clients envision what the design will look like. Remember that this interior design career module gives you ideas for activities. As the instructor, you are free to tailor these activities to your students as you see fit. This career module is designed to help inspire your own creativity in guiding a student through SketchUp.
